VirtualWorkers.Asia (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a global service operated by Online Technology Australia. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this website and the services offered through it, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who uses the site, wherever you live.
We handle personal information in line with the privacy laws that apply to us and to you, including the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012, and other local data protection laws. Where these laws differ, we apply the stronger protection as our baseline, and the rights in section 9 are available to all users regardless of location.
1. Who this applies to
This policy covers everyone who uses the site: visitors, workers who create a profile, employers who create an account or post a job, and referees who respond to a reference request.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — name, email address, password (stored hashed), account type (worker or employer), and any profile photo or company logo you upload.
- Worker profiles — the details you add to your profile or resume: skills, work history, education, location, rate, availability, and any links, files, or test results you choose to add.
- Employer details — company name, website, business contact details, and the content of any job you post.
- Messages and applications — anything you send through the site, including job applications and messages between workers and employers.
- References — if you ask a referee to provide a reference, we collect the referee’s name, contact details, and their answers. Referees’ contact details are only used to send and manage the reference request.
- Payment details — if you buy a subscription, payment is handled by our payment provider. We receive confirmation of payment and the last four digits of your card; we do not store full card numbers.
- Support requests — anything you send us through the contact form or by email.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data — IP address, browser type, pages visited, time spent, referring URL, and similar technical data from server logs.
- Cookies — see section 7.
Information from third parties
- Social sign-in — if you sign in with Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, or a similar provider, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider. We do not receive your password.
3. How we use it
- To create and run your account and show your profile or job listing to other users as you’ve chosen.
- To connect workers and employers — including letting employers search, view, bookmark, and contact worker profiles according to their subscription.
- To process payments and manage subscriptions.
- To send service emails: account confirmation, password resets, application and message notifications, job alerts you’ve subscribed to, and billing notices.
- To send occasional news and offers, if you’ve opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email.
- To verify identity, references, and employer legitimacy, and to detect fraud, spam, and misuse.
- To improve the site, fix problems, and understand how it’s used.
- To meet our legal obligations.
Where the GDPR or a similar law applies, our legal bases for this are: performing our contract with you (running your account and the service), our legitimate interests (keeping the site secure, preventing fraud, improving the service), your consent (marketing emails, optional profile information — you can withdraw it at any time), and compliance with legal obligations.
4. Who can see your information
Worker profiles. Your profile is visible to registered employers. Depending on your settings and the employer’s subscription, this may include your full name, contact details, resume, and references. If you hide or delete your profile, it is no longer shown to employers.
Job listings. Published jobs are public and may appear in search engines.
Service providers. We use trusted third parties to run the site, including web hosting, email delivery, payment processing, and social sign-in. They only receive the information needed to do their job and must keep it secure.
Legal. We may disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. International transfers
We are a global service: our users and service providers are located in several countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and the European Union. By using the site you understand that your information may be stored and accessed in those countries. Wherever your information goes, we take reasonable steps — including contractual safeguards with our service providers — to make sure it is protected to the standard described in this policy.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account we remove or anonymise your profile and personal information within 30 days, except where we need to keep some of it to meet legal, tax, or dispute-resolution obligations, or to prevent fraud. Server logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted.
7. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. Essential cookies are needed for the site to work. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect how the site works for you.
8. Security
We protect your information with measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls, and regular software updates. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected users and the relevant authority as required by law.
9. Your rights and choices
We give every user these rights, wherever you live:
- Access — ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you. You can view and update most of it from your account dashboard.
- Correction — fix anything that’s inaccurate or out of date.
- Deletion — ask us to delete your account and personal information at any time.
- Portability — ask for your information in a common machine-readable format.
- Objection and restriction — object to, or ask us to limit, particular uses of your information.
- Withdraw consent — where we rely on your consent (such as marketing emails), withdraw it at any time. We’ll still send you essential service emails while you hold an account.
- Profile visibility — workers can hide their profile from employer search at any time.
To exercise any of these, use our contact page. We’ll respond within 30 days and won’t charge you. We may ask you to verify your identity first.
Complaints. If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your information, contact us first and we’ll work to resolve it. You can also complain to your local data protection authority — for example the OAIC in Australia, the ICO in the UK, your national data protection authority in the EU, or the National Privacy Commission in the Philippines.
10. Children
This site is for people aged 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, contact us and we’ll delete it.
11. Third-party links
The site may link to other websites we don’t control. This policy doesn’t cover those sites — check their own privacy policies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If the changes are significant we’ll let you know by email or a notice on the site.
13. Contact us
For any privacy question, request, or complaint, use our contact page and mark your message “Privacy”.
