Know who you’re hiring before the first interview.

Screening on VirtualWorkers.Asia is three checks shown on a worker’s profile and search card: an ID document check by our team, an EF SET English level on the CEFR scale, and a dated internet speed test from the machine they work on. Elite employers see all three, so you shortlist on evidence, not promises.

No commissions, no lock-in. Compare plans

  • ID document checked against the profile name
  • English assessed by EF SET, shown as a CEFR level
  • Download and upload speed from a dated test

Who does the checking
Our team. A badge appears only after a person has reviewed the document, the certificate and the speed result.
Where you see it
On the worker’s profile and on their card in search results, on the Elite plan.
What it costs the worker
Nothing. About an hour, once.
What it is not
A guarantee. Screening removes the obvious risks; the interview, references and a paid trial still do the rest.

What each check tells you

ID document check

The person is who the profile says.

The worker uploads a government-issued ID. Our team compares the name on it with the name on the profile. If they agree, the profile shows ID document check · Matched.

We check it; we never publish it. Employers see the badge, not the document — and it is a document check by us, not a database verification.

EF SET English level

How well they read and listen in English.

EF SET is a free, 50-minute reading and listening test run by EF. The worker sits it on EF’s site and pastes their certificate link to us; we confirm it and show the level on the CEFR scale, A1 to C2.

It is an independent test, not a self-rating. Speaking can be reviewed by our team on request.

Internet speed test

Whether calls and screen-sharing will hold up.

The worker runs a speed test from the machine they’ll actually work on. We show download, upload and the date it was run. It’s the number that decides whether a Zoom call stutters, and the one most employers forget to ask about.

Together

Three different questions, three different answers.

Identity, language and connection are the three things you can’t judge from a resume. Screening answers them before you spend an hour on a call — and the profile still carries the resume, references and salary ask for everything else.

Reading the CEFR level

What each band means for the roles you’re likely hiring.

  • A1–A2
BasicCan handle simple, routine exchanges. Fine for data entry or back-office work with written instructions; not for customer contact.
  • B1
IntermediateCan follow clear instructions and handle familiar topics. Suits admin, research and support roles where a template does most of the talking.
  • B2
Upper intermediateComfortable in most work conversations, written and spoken. The usual floor for customer support, bookkeeping with client contact and virtual-assistant roles.
  • C1
AdvancedFluent, precise, handles nuance and difficult customers. Suits phone-heavy support, account management and anything that represents your business.
  • C2
ProficientEffectively native-level. Writing for your customers, editing, training others.

CEFR is the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages — the scale used by EF SET, IELTS and Cambridge. Highlighted levels are where most employer roles on VirtualWorkers.Asia sit.

How much internet speed does a remote worker need?

The speed badge is easier to read with a yardstick.

RoleComfortableWhy
Admin, data entry, bookkeeping10 Mbps down · 5 Mbps upWeb apps and email. Almost any fixed connection in Manila, Cebu or Ho Chi Minh City clears this.
Customer support, virtual assistant15 Mbps down · 5 Mbps upDaily video calls plus a CRM or helpdesk open. Upload speed matters more than download for calls.
Developers, designers25 Mbps down · 10 Mbps upPulling repos, pushing builds, screen-sharing a large canvas.
Video editing, content50 Mbps down · 20 Mbps upUploading footage and exports. Below this, delivery becomes the bottleneck.

Our rule of thumb, not a standard. Ask about a backup — mobile data or a second provider — for any role where an outage costs you a shift.

How a profile gets screened

  1. Once · the worker

    Completes the three checks

Each worker does this once, free: uploads an ID document for a name check, sits the EF SET test on EF’s site and pastes the certificate link, and runs a speed test from their working machine. It takes about an hour, and there is nothing for you to send or set up.

  2. Then · our team

    Reviews, and the badges show

We check the document name against the profile, confirm the EF SET certificate and read the speed result. Only then does a badge appear on the profile and on the worker’s card in your search results.

  3. Now · you

Shortlist on what you can see

Open the profile, read the three results and decide who’s worth an hour on a call. Ask for a live re-test in the interview if you want to see the speed for yourself, and use the level, not the resume, to judge the English.

Screening is a check, not a guarantee.

It removes the obvious risks before you invest time. Interview, read the references and run a paid trial exactly as you would otherwise. Workers can read about the tests on the English assessment page.

Screening questions

What does “ID document check · Matched” mean?

A member of our team has compared a government-issued ID document with the name on the profile and they agree. It is a document check carried out by us, not an independent identity verification against a government database. The document itself is never shown to employers.

Which English test is it?

EF SET — the free, 50-minute reading and listening test run by EF Education First. Results are reported on the CEFR scale from A1 to C2. Workers take it on EF’s own site and paste their certificate link to us; we confirm the certificate before the badge shows.

Does EF SET test speaking?

The standard EF SET is reading and listening. Speaking can be reviewed by our team on request, and the surest test is still a ten-minute call — the badge tells you who is worth that call.

Can a worker fake the speed test?

The result we show is dated and read by our team, but any speed test is a snapshot of one moment on one connection. If it matters for the role, ask for a live re-test on the interview call — it takes thirty seconds and shows you the connection they’ll actually work on.

Are unscreened workers hidden?

No. Every worker stays in the list. Screening adds signal to the profiles that have it; it does not remove the ones that don’t. Many good workers simply haven’t got to it yet.

Does screening cost the worker anything?

No. All three checks are free for workers — EF SET is a free test, the speed test is free, and the ID check is done by our team at no charge. Workers never pay for anything on VirtualWorkers.Asia.

What do I need to get started?

An Elite plan. There is nothing to set up — the badges show on profiles and in search results as soon as you’re on Elite.
